Oral tradition redux

In Pieter's family it affected the women. His mother and mother in law both were suffering from age related hearing problems, yet they both refused to wear their hearing aids. They had lived good lives, but were set in their ways and the gadget in their ears, no matter how small, impossible for others to see, still made noise that their brains were having a hard time.

Pieter, an up and coming independent conference manager, couldn't remember the last time he had made a New Years Resolution, but this was the year. He was going to go all in with earbuds and not just for phone calls, the AI on a Q phone was getting good ratings as a personal assistant. This was his year.

That was 10 years ago. Today he was one of the most sought after event planners. Didn't matter what it was: wedding, political rally, gratitude party, private concert, holiday party, if you wanted it to go smoothly you turned to Pieter, CSM, UaO. Just understand, it was his food, venue, AV, physical security, he ran the show. Need a union hotel? No problem, the lead shop steward had to put his name next to Pieter's on the contract . . . and to Pieter contracts were binding far more than what a court of law might decide.

Was it as simple as an earpiece? No, silly, the AI behind it was radical. The goal setter was a member of his AV team, gadget guy from day one. He started taking notes of the questions and decisions Pieter had to make. Not all of them required Pieter. Then he started asking the age old questions: what would make Pieter's life easier, what are the things he really does not have to do, what are the things that only Pieter can do? From such simple questions an AI was born that now spoke into Pieter's ear with the information he truly needed to know right then.

** AI divergence based on goal mismatch

had some effect. At night sometimes, when he took it out, he poured himself a good drink of brandy, went still, partly processing the events of the day, partly thankful the voices in his head were finally quiet.
