Serenitist pre-Traveler and Chase discussion, pre-Green Bay, pre-Leilani death
Wonk said, look Traveler, I think I know you as well as anyone, well, perhaps after Yolanda, he said, giving her a knowing nod.
And, whenever there is an issue to be discussed, you almost always stay silent. And you say that is because you are a serenitist, what is that?
Wonk, being a serenitist does not mean that I don't have a view, I simply choose not to speak about it. Pretty much, everything that needs to be said, has been, many times.
But you say you are a Christian, you can't tell me they don't speak out.
As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. Romans 14:1. Wonk the people of the world are a rich tapestry of cultures, opinions and beliefs. Democrats, republicans, libertarians, baptists, methodists, shiites, suni, orthodox, rotarians, vegans, populists, robustos . . . some of them just inherited their beliefs from family and their environment, others were seekers, I don't feel qualified to judge them, do you? Let God be the judge, and I assure you, He will.
Stop, Trav. I live in the real world. I run a lot of companies, many of which are increasingly in the physical security and public safety space. Some jerk with a criminal record a mile long allegedly just shot a Pierce country deputy that everyone loved leaving a widow and two young children. I can't help him, he is gone, but I make decisions every day to try to reduce the risk that happens again.
They are throwing you power left, right and sideways, it is almost certain you are going to get a seat at the table in Green Bay. You will not be able to sit on the fence, someone has to make the hard choice, are you up to it?
Yes, Wonk. I have prepared for this all of my life. When Wonk thought back on the conversation later, he realized, it wasn't the words, it was the calm, the resolve, the certainty, he had felt something like an electric shock course through his nervous system.
Yolanda, Wonk's lover, mentor, business partner, normally larger than life itself, was subdued. She walked over put her arm over Wonk's shoulder and gently walked him out of the room. He has a meeting with destiny, let's give him some time to prepare. In a few minutes Traveler would meet the Reverend Chase Slocom.

Traveler was excited. He had heard so much about Chase from Wonk, a man with experience, who tried to be right with God, yet approachable even when the topic was bikini models. He walked up to the door of the meeting room where the man of prayer had established his office in the back.
There he was, as advertised, in the back of a room with a small stage, rows of chairs, Chase's table on one side, an AV control station on the other. The two men's eyes met. There was an immediate bond between them, Chase had been interceding for Traveler for months.
They didn't need to spend much time on small talk and the in depth conversation is privileged. Suffice to say that from that day on, Traveler relied on Reverend Slocom for counsel and support as he assumed increasingly important duties.
