D Birthday party Cody and Toddler 1.4

It was a familiar scene, a Blue Circle child having a birthday party, a few Blues traveling solo, plenty of senior Circle representatives, mostly with their families. Traveler's parties had all been on the ranch, but this was hosted at a hotel in San Jose. The glory days of "the valley" were in the past, but the hotel had been recently renovated and the town was accepting its role in an aging society gracefully. In addition to the standard ballroom, they had picked up several sleeping suites which were left open, there were a number of smaller children and two of these had been converted to children's play areas. This way, there were plenty bathrooms, always a plus with partygoers in diapers.

Mr Relevson, hello, it has been a long time sir, Traveler said to a gentleman he had known as long as he could remember. Tel Relevson, had made his fortune in aircraft parts, mostly rivets, the fasteners that hold the big birds together. Today that company was Circle employee owned, and Tel was involved in organizing local politics, mayors, councilmen in around the San Jose, Sunnyvale, area.

Well met Traveler, I have been hearing good things about you. With all the shootings it is good to see someone building personal armor, understand you teamed with Gizmo on that one.

Yes sir, and an up and comer, Wonk from Wonk Enterprises.

Can't say I've heard of Wonk Enterprises, but let me make a note, Seattle area? Yes, Everett sir.

I need to get up that way for the Tacoma Mayor's prayer luncheon, maybe you can arrange an intro, got his head on straight I take it?

Yes sir, he is becoming one of my closest friends.

Sounds like small talk, but it was the pattern that has lasted centuries. Look for talent that wasn't driven by the wrong motives, make some introductions, facilitate connections between older, wiser, mentors. Proffer the hand of friendship, everybody wants a friend.

Cody Boy was running loose, one of 2 BC dogs at the event. The other was  a golden, a medical dog, sniffs for disease, stuff Cody didn't know, or frankly care about. It's perimeter check time. Even with a service jacket, it wouldn't be wise to run the outside without a human. Earlier, he had found a young teen that wasn't deaf, most of them are these days. Picked up his leash in his mouth, the boy was in a mixed group of kids his age. Approached the group, looked the boy in the eye and executed a BOW, you probably think of it as a stretch. The kid understood, hooked up the leash, they went to walk the building, any inconvenience of being taken away from his friends was balanced by the girls in the group that noted the cute, well behaved dog, came up to him. Maybe they would like to get to know that boy better.

Mostly clear, plenty exits, no construction, one Deep State smelling van. Cody, went into sniffing mode, the boy probably thought he was looking for a suitable bathroom spot, but he pulled his iBone, set it on the ground pointed at the van, pawed the BLUE BUTTON, then set it back. The boy, texting on his Q, missed the whole thing. Perimeter secure, time to reconnect with Traveler.

Once inside the building, Cody emoted RELEASE. The boy got it, couldn't quite put the pieces together, but he clearly had handler potential on down the road.
There you go boy, he unsnapped Cody's leash, who took it back in his mouth and went to find Traveler. But wait, maybe first, Cody dropped into HEEL position and went back to the gathering of teens. Cody was watching his partner, which of the girls did the boy have his eye on, got it. As they approached, Cody walked up to her, looked up imploringly at her with those big brown retriever eyes. She didn't know what to say or do, said SIT. Cody SAT. She came over to pet him, (on the top of the head of course, joy, joy, joy). Cody soaked it up, wiggled around so he was a bit closer to the boy, she moved up to scratch behind the ear, (oh, yeah baby, that works). Cody gently moved backwards, turned and left leaving the boy and the girl standing next to each other. Cody the matchmaker, like the sound of that, Cody is a GOOD BOY.

One of the pre-school set aside rooms was next door, Cody hadn't planned on going inside, but as he passed by the door, he noticed toddler in diapers, but big, maybe a late potty trainee, clutching a slice of pizza in his hand. He wasn't eating it, just carrying it around. Finally, he set it on the table and toddled away.

Keep on walking Cody, that's not yours. But it could be. Cody began to channel Artful Dodger. Slipped in behind the toddler, nobody was looking, deaf and blind human group, what else is new? Close, just put the canines on the pizza, pull very slowly, mine. Cody steals pizza, BAD BOY CODY, PIZZA GOOD. Cody quietly celebrated. dog song playing in his head, when the sniff hits your snout, you know pizza's about, that's a resource, yeah.

Yes, dogs have a mischievous side to them. Blue Circle dogs are tightly wound, all that training, the ever present iBone. When they get to act out, especially subtly, it means a lot to them. A memory like this is a treasure indeed when you get transferred to the old dog's home.
