1.7 done Rhea walking, Bandi rescues Sami
Guy's phone rang, it was his mom. Rhea couldn't speak, sobbing, she sent video. Familiar, Carson lane, sort of a McMansion, farmette area, that was popular for walkers, especially the section that ran along loop trail.
Apparently as they were walking some loose dogs entered the Macron property and attacked their miniature horse Sami. Bandi saw it before the trouble began, self-released his lead and took off. Rhea later described it as a black and mahogany blur, she had no idea he could run that fast, over the fence with its lavender hedge, seconds too late to stop the first bite Bandi leaped into the air.
If it wasn't on video, it wouldn't be believable, in flight, he inverted coming under the attacking dogs neck, biting down hard, when he it the ground, he wrenched over, ripping a huge chunk from the mongrel's throat. One down.
The second attacker turned his attention from Sami, Bandi was the new enemy, but not prey, this was about dominance, even survival. Bandi had height, weight, conditioning, but he knew the pitt mutt had nothing to lose, had to make this count. He was trying to connect with Sami, the horse was oo afraid, he was deaf. This one's on me, he thought.
Every Blue Circle dog knows there is a price to a fight. You are going to get bit, have to be mentally prepared for that. Accept the damage and pain, go for the kill. A squat fighting dog has the advantage of torque and low center of gravity. But every paw that leaves the ground is opportunity, get him to jump, strike while he is in the air, jackpot. GSDs don't have the strongest bite force, but they are in the top 10, it's all about leverage.
Bandi was still, crouched ready. The curr, barking, looking for leverage, was posturing. Bandi, shifted his muscles as if he was going to jump. His opponent, in a self induced frenzy leapt into the air, Bandi all four on the floor, spun, head butted him to the South, moved fast accelerating, hit him hard the second he touched down, knocked him to his side, that was all the throat Bandi needed. He bit for dear life, literally. Every dog fiber in his being knew that nothing, nothing on this earth could cause him to lose his grip, no consideration of trying for a better one. He could feel the warm blood, it would make his hold slippery, could see the horse through his side eye, seemed OK. Tried to communicate again, RUN. He could feel the bitten throat slowly pulling away, his canines still locked into place. Things would be much simpler without the horse.
RUN. The miniature horse heard and ran for the house, the barn, his sanctuary. By this time, the wounded dog's twists and turns wrenched him free, trading flesh and blood for another chance at the brawl. He sprung to his feet. The owners of the house were out, between the house, the 4 car garage and barn, Sami was safe, Rhea was with them. The man had a shotgun, Bandi knew full well what it was, hoped the man would keep a cool head. Bad dog was bleeding out, 2, 3 minutes he would drop. Bandi stayed still, DON'T let him use the gun, it's OK, he told Rhea; she heard and addressed the couple. The attacking dog is losing blood fast, Bandi will hold him there for a short time till he collapses. Perhaps one of you would be willing to call animal control.
She was shaking even though she knew everything was OK. Think you know a dog and then they surprise you, where did that come from? Bandi should not have done that, Blue Circle dogs were worth a dozen toy horses, they had their missions and were supposed to stick to them . What happened here? She was glad there was a video record, certain, Bandi's sponsor would have to see it. The couple with the house had security cam video too and offered to share it with it her. As the man went inside, she noticed the weather vane on the roof, a stylistic circle. 4 car garage, another garage in the barn. She scanned the house, could easily see 5 cameras. This was probably a Circle house of some sort, what had tipped Bandi off? Felt a great need to talk to someone, called her son, Guy.
