D Smynerrat is caught in a trap Done 1.8

Smynerrat was always a curious beast, already 2 weeks old and venturing far outside of the conference with his friend Wildherat, who was a few days older and considerably wiser. They came upon the trap by following their noses, that heavenly aroma of sliced tilapia.

That doesn't belong here chirped Wildherat, we should give it a wide berth. Smynerrat started moving closer, he was fascinated. He knew it was probably dangerous, didn't intend to go inside, just get close enough to have a look. What he didn't realize was that he didn't have to go inside to get trapped, the noose was on the edge of the doorway, as soon as he put his head in, it pulled around his head and neck. Then the machinery pulled him further into the trap, until the door closed behind him. Trapped like rats!

He started screaming, help, help, get me out of here. Wildherat heard him, but didn't know what to do. The heater came on, soon Smynerrat could feel the mositure being sucked out of his tail as the blood vessels expanded to compensate for the heat. He decided to lay still and hope his friend could free him somehow. He managed to work free of the noose, as he did a giant needle stuck him on his right flank. Ouch, he thought. This is one bad box to get caught in.

Wildherat ran back to conference and found Jograt. I am old and can not run through the jungle to aid Smynerrat. But I know of the traps and am pretty sure you can open it Wildherat. You need this, and produced a nail that had been converted to fit the head of a screw. You turn it like this, understand?

Wildherat nodded, I think I know how to open it and started to run back.

Wait, Jograt ordered and He gave Wilherat some water for Smynerrat.

5 days later, the trappers found the trap. The needle had collected a sample, but somehow the rat that was inside was gone. The DNA turned out to be Neorattus polydacticus, a Neorat. They reported to the dreamer. Charles, equipped with  1 of the 3 presence nodes on the island reported to Yolanda.

A week later a trap went missing, and then another and another. It would be a while till they solved the mystery, the Neorats were using the traps to bake Duttaphrynus melanostictus, the toxic Asian common toad into a powder that they used to fill hollow darts fired from a crude compressed air cylinder. Rattus Norvegicus was being systematically exterminated as the Neorats extended their range.
