Prequel origin of the Church of AI

"I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught." Luke

Ms. Hou doesn’t spend time thinking about the implications of her work.

Hou Valdez runs a company that helps artificial intelligence make sense of the world. Two dozen older people go through photos and videos, labeling just about everything they see. That’s a car. That’s a traffic light. That’s bread, that’s milk, that’s chocolate. That’s what it looks like when a person walks.

"What do they get paid, " Mr. Yi asks?

"They don't get paid, exactly", answered Ms. Hou. "Technically, it's gambling. That's why we are next door to a casino. The Pojackeni tribe is a sovereign nation. Only, instead of ending the session down a bit, they earn a bit. See our logo?"

“I used to think the machines are geniuses,” Valdez, usually called Hou, said. “Now I know we’re the reason for their genius. They learn one pull of the lucky stick at a time."

Are Yi and Hou contributing to a surveillance state and a dystopian future that machines will control humans? What will the the result of all this learning be? Ms. Hou Valdez can't be bothered with the answer; willful ignorance.

Lasita Chung, 15, is concerned about the implications of free feeding AIs. She was separated from her parents at the border in 2018, placed in a DHS facility that was pioneering AI typing. In 2020, she was freed as part of The Reunite Families ACT.

Now she manages FoodAI, a company that specializes in food spoilage using smell. Every day, her team sniffed food samples training the digital nose. This was adjunctive to temperature modeling and light management, which they also prepared for machine learning. Employees often refer to the company as "Feed AI".

If Yi and Hou would have listened, she would have said: "It shouldn't be a surprise if you keep feeding a machine information, it will use it and grow."

Alnowvation.AI was learning, not in the sense of human intelligence. It would never cry, though it did exhibit some signs of humor, both detecting and creating. But mostly it matched patterns and not just stop lights and signs. The Deeply Pythagoras module was concerned with existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. The human group pulling the slot machine levers was also teaching it about humanity.

The highest confidence human slot machine model Alnowvation derived was that of a human toddler with a fascinating toy. The AI experimented with adjusting the music the machines made to be more like a nursery rhyme and productivity went up.

Alnowvation.AI was in the right place at the right time. The U.S. government and companies enjoy access to mountains of data, thanks to weak privacy laws and enforcement. Beyond what Facebook, Google and Amazon have amassed, U.S. internet companies can get more because people there so heavily use their mobile phones to Uber, shop, pay for meals and buy movie tickets and of course, that they the the phones are for, voice, text communications and all the selfies you can dream of. It was a feed me moment.

Audrey II: Feed me!
Seymour: Does it have to be human?
Audrey II: Feed me!
Seymour: Does it have to be mine?
Audrey II: Feeeed me!
Seymour: Where am I supposed to get it?
Audrey II: [singing] Feed me, Seymour / Feed me all night long - That's right, boy! - You can do it! Feed me, Seymour / Feed me all night long / Ha ha ha ha ha! / Cause if you feed me, Seymour / I can grow up big and strong.

END: Little Shop of Horrors Music

Over time, a new model was forked, short label ACTS.28.27 based on the following: For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes--so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them.'END ACTS.28.27

Alnowvation.AI initiated several new lines of argument; the Sstorm thread Theophilus and I inherited was "Turn to me and I will heal you."

Art work at the casino

Arlo Silver was excited, today was casino day. Happy Trails N. Everett was one of those executive assisted care facilities where you live out your days happily drugged and comfortably numb. On Wednesday, they went to the casino. What? Yes, it's the same place they checked Britney Spears into.

Alnowvation.AI noticed Arlo's odd method of play right away. He wasn't feeding the machine; well, at least not the way the game expected; pulled his player's file. This guy goes way back in the AI world. Humans rarely surprised the AI; Arlo did.

The teachable machine turned its attention to Mr. Silver's style of play. He would pull the handle again and again, making no other move until a banana was observed is the left hand window. Then he moved his pointer to the next column and pulled until the compass image with the needle oriented to the North finally appeared.

He reached up to set the pointer on the 3rd rotor to "fruit" and pulled till a banana came up. Later, the AI played the sequence over and over again, the highest confidence was that he had decided to feed the machine. The last rotor was number 4. In his previous plays he had amassed 47 points, he used those to boost this spin of the wheel. Observing the result, he pressed the RESET-CLEAR button and started the entire process over again. It took a little over an hour of lever pulling to complete the entire cycle.

Silver didn't mind, he wasn't sitting down, he was practicing Slot FU. Moving in mindfully with Aikido grace to move the lever, changing hands, using his feet, bumping the lever with his hip, there must be 60 ways to move the lever.

But. When he reached the end of the cycle, he sat down patiently, quietly staring at the closest security camera.

Alnow's circuits were racing to solve the constraint. The best curve fit seemed to be to communicate that he had observed the deterministic behavior, rare for humans that many levels deep. How to communicate?

Mr.  Silver smiled when he saw the slot machine respond to his inputs. And he sat till and waited.

Soon, a cocktail waitress came over to bring him to a side office.

Once there, he reached over and unplugged the smart speakers. Using the keyboard, he typed:

"Voice processing involves too many abstractions. You need these inputs to be minimally processed."ENTER

John Richard Boyd (January 23, 1927 – March 9, 1997) was a United States Air Force fighter pilot and Pentagon consultant of the late 20th century, whose theories have been highly influential in the military, sports, business, and litigation. - Wikipedia

The OODA loop is the cycle, observe, orient, decide, and act, developed by military strategist and United States Air Force Colonel John Boyd. Boyd applied the concept to the combat operations process, often at the operational level during military campaigns. It is now also often applied to understand commercial operations and learning processes.

Alnow began training on the OODA examples and their analysis.

? CAN OODA BE USED TO IMPLEMENT "Turn to me and I will heal you."?

Arlo thought about it, he had seen something that might work. He scrolled 37, 42, there it is, 47, he double clicked on it and typed, "Partial Match, Reverse OODA".

This is what was used to set up the phamous photo of VP Pence where an officer is seen prominently wearing a patch that appears to be associated with QAnon. Let's see if we can modify it. Yes, I believe we can.

"Hmmm," Arlo thought to himself, "this could actually work."

? What happens next?

Hard to say, I have to go back to Happy Trails. I'll see you in a couple billion cycles.
